Doctor Paul is fantastic. He's the sole proprietor of his dentistry practice and you can tell he cares about his patients, their parents, and the perception of his work and the work of his staff. Each of my experiences have been pleasant, professional, and have left me completely satisfied with bringing in my oldest. My family has referred a few friends and our nephew when he has teeth. Support a fantastic local business supporting the children of West Sacramento.

I have been taking my children to see Doctor Johnson since he opened in West Sacramento. He is very patient and kind with the kids, and also takes his time explaining any treatment needed to the parents and explaining why. My kids enjoy coming to see him and the place is not overwhelming like some of the larger Pediatric Dentistry practices. It is clean, it is local, and it is very nice.

To be clear, my issues are with the office policy and office staff, the actual dental cleanings are fine and the toys/screens for the kids are a nice environment for the kiddos. Issue 1:During our early visits we had a billing issue. We went to the office, a gal said “you need to take it up with your insurance. My wife said, we are budgeting and it’d help if we didn’t overpay. The gal said Dr. Johnson is a person too and has finances to consider as well. So we should pay Dr. Johnson today. Then we will issue you a check later if remedied.” We asked if they could help navigate the insurance and she said she didn’t have time because she was heading out on vacation. Fine. Insurance was navigated and Dr. Johnson ended up sending us the difference back months later. Issue 2: We stop going to Dr. Johnson. Only to receive a billing notice a year after we had already stopped seeing them. Fine, paid. Issue 3: billing seems standard for cleaning EXCEPT why is there even a billing code for “Nutritional counseling for control of dental disease”, “Oral Hygiene Instructions”,and “Motivational Interviewing”? Yes it’s $0 but why even have a billing code for asking someone if they brush and floss and then telling someone to brush and floss, and to avoid sugar. 🤨 Asked for clarification and the receptionist said that it’s $0 and it’s rolled into the CAMBRA recall line as it’s not covered by insurance and is part of your $10 copay. Still doesn’t explain WHY the office has a billing code for these items. The same lady said, “that there is a special questionnaire used to help patients achieve dental goals”. Listen, I get that this is a business, but the collective experience is just too much.

Dr. Johnson and his staff are absolutely outstanding! They have always treated my boys with incredible patience and professionalism. Since their very first visit at one year old, my boys have felt comfortable and at ease in the dental chair, all thanks to Dr. Johnson and his wonderful team. They genuinely enjoy coming to their appointments, which speaks volumes about the care and dedication of this office. I cannot recommend them enough!

I would highly recommend to anybody with a kid to get their dental care here. Every child I saw leave left with a smile. The staff was very friendly and the office was clean and well kept. This was my daughter’s first visit and overall, it was a great experience.
